Meet The Team
LAURA E. URIAS
Laura Urias graduated from the University of California at Davis School of Law in 2006 and has been admitted to practice law in California since 2007. Ms. Urias handles a variety of immigration matters (U Visa, VAWA, Humanitarian Parole, DACA, Advance Parole, I-751 Domestic Violence waivers, family-based immigration, the I-601A provisional waiver, asylum, and representation of individuals in immigration court). Ms. Urias is known for her kind, friendly demeanor with clients, excellent trauma-informed client interview skills, and creativity in formulating legal strategy.
Ms. Urias worked as a Staff Attorney at the United Farm Workers (UFW) Foundation, where she specialized in U Nonimmigrant Status Petitions (“U Visas”) and developed a Public Benefits Outreach Program for low-income immigrants to increase access for migrant workers and their families to food stamps and Medi-Cal as well as providing information on the intersection of public benefits eligibility and immigration status.
Following her work at the UFW Foundation, Ms. Urias worked as a Staff Attorney at the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ). At LACLJ, Ms. Urias practiced predominantly family law, providing high-quality, free legal representation to low-income survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in matters relating to child custody, restraining orders, child support, paternity, divorce, public benefits advocacy, and other services. Ms. Urias also represented survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault before USCIS via the U Visa, VAWA Self-Petitions, and DACA requests. Ms. Urias’ co-founded Phillips & Urias, LLP with Attorney Nora Phillips in 2014. Now, as the head of The Law Offices of Laura Urias, Laura remains committed to the migrant community in Los Angeles and beyond.
Ms. Urias sits on the board of the East Los Angeles Women’s Center (ELAWC) and has been certified as a Domestic Violence Advocate by the State of California. Ms. Urias also co-facilitates the Boyle Heights Advisory Council, a community grass-roots advisory council that provides policy recommendations to ELAWC regarding the strengths and gaps in the community of Boyle Heights as it relates to violence against women and girls.
Ms. Urias is also part of the Eastside Mujeres Network, a grass-roots community network of organizers, community members and non-profit organizations who work together to provide resources and bring awareness to issues affecting women on Eastside of Los Angeles. Laura is fluent in Spanish and is a native of El Salvador.
